Title Quantum key distribution protocol with private-public key Type Journal Article
Year 2009 Publication arXiv Abbreviated Journal arXiv
Volume Issue Pages 3
Keywords quantum cryptography; QKD; protocol
Abstract A quantum cryptographic protocol based in public key cryptography combinations and private key cryptography is presented. Unlike the BB84 protocol 1 and its many variants 2,3 two quantum channels are used. The present research does not make reconciliation mechanisms of information to derive the key. A three related system of key distribution are described.

Title Counting photons using a nanonetwork of superconducting wires Type Conference Article
Year 2009 Publication Nano-Net Abbreviated Journal
Volume Issue Pages 120-122
Keywords SSPD, SNSPD
Abstract We show how the parallel connection of photo-sensitive superconducting nanowires can be used to count the number of photons in an optical pulse, down to the single-photon level. Using this principle we demonstrate photon-number resolving detectors with unprecedented sensitivity and speed at telecommunication wavelengths.

Title Mechanism of formation of texture and its influence on the strength of thermoelectric p-Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 Type Journal Article
Year 2009 Publication Physics of the Solid State Abbreviated Journal Phys. Sol. St.
Volume 51 Issue 4 Pages 747-749
Keywords
Abstract It is established that, in preparing p-Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 by vertical zone melting, in addition to the directional texture (characteristic of materials exhibiting a highly anisotropic growth rate) in which the cleavage planes of crystal grains are parallel to the direction of propagation of the crystallization front, other texture types can arise, in which the orientation of grain cleavage planes is ordered in a cross-sectional plane of the ingot. Two types of such textures, “radial” and “circular,” were observed. In a radial texture, the lines of intersection of grain cleavage planes with a cross-sectional plane of the ingot are oriented along radii of this cross section and, in a circular texture, these lines of intersection are oriented approximately perpendicular to a radius crossing the grain. The formation of a radial texture is associated with rotation of the ampoule with the crystallizing substance about its vertical axis causing centrifugal flows of the melt. The formation of a circular texture is associated with the orientation effect of the ampoule walls and with circular motion of the melt during torsional oscillations of the ampoule about the vertical axis. Ingots with a radial texture exhibit much lower resistance to splitting along their axis than ingots with a circular texture do. An explanation is provided for this fact.

Title Ultrafast nanowire superconducting single-photon detector with photon number resolving capability Type Conference Article
Year 2009 Publication Proc. SPIE Abbreviated Journal Proc. SPIE
Volume 7236 Issue Pages 72360D (1 to 11)
Keywords PNR NbN SSPD, SNSPD, superconducting single-photon detectors, photon number resolving detectors, ultrathin NbN films
Abstract In this paper we present a review of the state-of-the-art superconducting single-photon detector (SSPD), its characterization and applications. We also present here the next step in the development of SSPD, i.e. photon-number resolving SSPD which simultaneously features GHz counting rate. We have demonstrated resolution up to 4 photons with quantum efficiency of 2.5% and 300 ps response pulse duration providing very short dead time.

Abstract The state-of-the-art of the NbN nanowire superconducting single-photon detector technology (SSPD) is presented. The SSPDs exhibit excellent performance at 2 K temperature: 30% quantum efficiency from visible to infrared, negligible dark count rate, single-photon sensitivity up to 5.6 µm. The recent achievements in the development of GHz counting rate devices with photon-number resolving capability is presented.

Title Single-photon detectors for optical quantum information applications Type Journal Article
Year 2009 Publication Nature Photonics Abbreviated Journal Nature Photonics
Volume 3 Issue Pages 696-705
Keywords SPD
Abstract The past decade has seen a dramatic increase in interest in new single-photon detector technologies. A major cause of this trend has undoubtedly been the push towards optical quantum information applications such as quantum key distribution. These new applications place extreme demands on detector performance that go beyond the capabilities of established single-photon detectors. There has been considerable effort to improve conventional photon-counting detectors and to transform new device concepts into workable technologies for optical quantum information applications. This Review aims to highlight the significant recent progress made in improving single-photon detector technologies, and the impact that these developments will have on quantum optics and quantum information science.

Title Series production of state-of-the-art 602-720 GHz SIS receivers for band 9 of ALMA Type Conference Article
Year 2009 Publication Proc. 20th Int. Symp. Space Terahertz Technol. Abbreviated Journal
Volume Issue Pages 7-11
Keywords SIS mixer, noise temperature, ALMA, band 9
Abstract The Atacama Large Millimeter/Sub-millimeter Array (ALMA) requires the development and production of 73 state-of-the-art receivers for the 602-720 GHz range – the ALMA Band 9 cartridges. Development and pre-production of the first 8 cartridges was completed between 2003 and 2008, resulting in a cartridge design that meets the project's challenging requirements. The cartridge design remains essentially unchanged for production, while the production and test processes developed during pre-production have been fine-tuned to address the biggest new challenge for this phase – ramping up production to a rate of 2 cartridges per month over 2009-2012.
