Abstract |
In this paper, the intermediate frequency (IF) gain bandwidth of a quasi-optical NbN superconducting hot-electron bolometer (HEB) mixer is investigated at 500 GHz with an IF system incorporating with a frequency down-converting scheme which is able to sweep the IF signal in a frequency range of 0.3-4 GHz. The IF gain bandwidth of the device is measured to be 1.5 GHz when it is biased at a voltage of the minimum noise temperature, and becomes larger when the bias voltage increases. |

Abstract |
This paper presents a 10-Gb/s wireless link system that uses a 120-GHz-band sub-terahertz electro-magnetic waves. In the transmitter, photonic techniques are used for generation, modulation, and emission of the sub-THz signals, while the receiver is composed of all-electronic devices using InP-HEMTs. |

Abstract |
The recent progress in the device performance of the uni-traveling-carrier photodiode (UTC-PD) is described. The UTC-PD utilizes only electrons as the active carriers, and this unique feature is the key to achieving excellent high-speed and high-output characteristics simultaneously. The achieved performance includes a record 3-dB bandwidth of 310 GHz, high-power photonic millimeter-wave generation with an output power of over +13 dBm at 100 GHz, high-output-voltage photoreceiver operation at bit rates of up to 80 Gbit/s, and demultiplexing operation at 200 Gbit/s using a monolithic PD-EAM optical gate. |

Abstract |
For the first time, we have measured the optical noise equivalent power (NEP) in titanium (Ti) superconducting hot-electron nanobolometers (nano-HEBs). The bolometers were 2{\mu}mx1{\mu}mx20nm and 1{\mu}mx1{\mu}mx20nm planar antenna-coupled devices. The measurements were done at {\lambda} = 460 {\mu}m using a cryogenic black body radiation source delivering optical power from a fraction of a femtowatt to a few 100s of femtowatts. A record low NEP = 3x10^{-19} W/Hz^{1/2} at 50 mK has been achieved. This sensitivity meets the requirements for SAFARI instrument on the SPICA telescope. The ways for further improvement of the nano-HEB detector sensitivity are discussed. |
