Title Low energy excitation in La2CuO4 Type Journal Article
Year 1990 Publication Sverkhprovodimost': Fizika, Khimiya, Tekhnika Abbreviated Journal Sverkhprovodimost': Fizika, Khimiya, Tekhnika
  Volume 3 Issue 5 Pages (down) 832-837
  Keywords metal-dielectric-La2CuO4, monocrystals
Abstract Measurements of transmission and photoconductivity spectra in submillimeter wave length range as well as of capacity C and conductivity G in the region of acoustic frequencies of metal-dielectric-La2CuO4 system at low temperatures are performed using La2CuO4 monocrystals. Optical spectra posses a threshold character, a sharp decrease of transmission and photocoductivity signal occurs in the energy region hν>1.5 MeV. C(ω,T) and G(ω, T) dependences have a universal form typical of Debye type relaxation processes. Relaxation time dependence is of thermoactivated character τ(T)∼exp(ξ/T) with the gap value ξ≅2 meV. It is assumed that excitations with characteristic energy of ∼2 meV exist in La2CuO4. A possible nature of the detected low-energy excitations is discussed.

Title Mutual synchronization of two coupled self-oscillators based on GaAs/AlGaAs superlattices Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication Tech. Phys. Abbreviated Journal Tech. Phys.
  Volume 56 Issue 6 Pages (down) 826-830
  Keywords GaAs/AlGaAs superlattices
Abstract The interaction of self-oscillators based on 30-period weakly coupled GaAs/AlGaAs superlattices is studied. The action of one self-oscillator on the other was observed for a constant bias voltage in the absence of generation of self-sustained oscillations in one of the oscillators. It is shown that induced oscillations in a forced oscillator appear due to excitation of oscillations in the system of coupled oscillators forming the electric-field domain wall at the frequency of one of the higher harmonics of a forcing oscillation.

Title Spectral sensitivity of the NbN single-photon superconducting detector Type Journal Article
Year 2002 Publication IEICE Trans. Electron. Abbreviated Journal IEICE Trans. Electron.
  Volume E85-C Issue 3 Pages (down) 797-802
  Keywords NbN SSPD, SNSPD
Abstract We report our studies on the spectral sensitivity of superconducting NbN thin-film single-photon detectors (SPD's) capable of GHz counting rates of visible and near-infrared photons. In particular, it has been shown that a NbN SPD is sensitive to 1.55-µm wavelength radiation and can be used for quantum communication. Our SPD's exhibit experimentally measured intrinsic quantum efficiencies from 20% at 800 nm up to 1% at 1.55-µm wavelength. The devices demonstrate picosecond response time (<100 ps, limited by our readout system) and negligibly low dark counts. Spectral dependencies of photon counting of continuous-wave, 0.4-µm to 3.5-µm radiation, and 0.63-µm, 1.33-µm, and 1.55-µm laser-pulsed radiations are presented for the single-stripe-type and meander-type devices.

Title Mixers using superconducting Nb films in the resistive state Type Conference Article
Year 1993 Publication 23rd European Microwave Conf. Abbreviated Journal 23rd European Microwave Conf.
  Volume Issue Pages (down) 787-789
  Keywords Nb HEB mixers
Abstract The mixing of 20 GHz radiation in a Nb superconducting film in the resistive state was studied. The experiment gave evidence of electron-heating to be the origin of the non-linear phenomenon. The requirements on the operation mode and on the film parameters in order to obtain small conversion losses or even gain are determined. Our measurements indicate a conversion loss of about 6-8 dB. The hot-electron bolometer is considered to be very promising for use in heterodyne receivers in a wide frequency range from microwaves to terahertz frequencies.

Title Feasibility investigation of NbN nanowires as detector in time-of-flight mass spectrometers for macromolecules of interest in biology (proteins) Type Journal Article
Year 2008 Publication J. Low Temp. Phys. Abbreviated Journal J. Low Temp. Phys.
  Volume 151 Issue 3-4 Pages (down) 771-776
  Keywords NbN SSPD, SNSPD, nanowires
Abstract We are investigating the possibility of using NbN nanowires as detectors in time-of-flight mass spectrometers for investigation of macromolecules of interest in biology (proteins). NbN nanowires could overcome the two major drawbacks encountered so far by cryogenic detectors, namely the low working temperature in the mK region and the slow temporal response. In fact, NbN nanowires can work at 5 K and the response time is at least a factor 10–100 better than that of other cryogenic detectors. We present a feasibility study based on a numerical code to calculate the response of a NbN nanowire. The parameter space is investigated at different energies from IR to macromolecules (i.e. from eV to keV) in order to understand if larger value of film thickness and width can be used for the keV energy region. We also present preliminary experimental results of irradiation with X-ray photons of NbN to simulate the effect of macromolecules of the same energy.
