Title Infrared hot-electron NbN superconducting photodetectors for imaging applications Type Journal Article
Year 1999 Publication Supercond. Sci. Technol. Abbreviated Journal Supercond. Sci. Technol.
  Volume 12 Issue 11 Pages (down) 755-758
  Keywords NbN SSPD, SNSPD
Abstract We report an effective quantum efficiency of 340, responsivity >200 A W-1 (>104 V W-1) and response time of 27±5 ps at temperatures close to the superconducting transition for NbN superconducting hot-electron photodetectors (HEPs) in the near-infrared and optical ranges. Our studies were performed on a few nm thick NbN films deposited on sapphire substrates and patterned into µm-size multibridge detector structures, incorporated into a coplanar transmission line. The time-resolved photoresponse was studied by means of subpicosecond electro-optic sampling with 100 fs wide laser pulses. The quantum efficiency and responsivity studies of our photodetectors were conducted using an amplitude-modulated infrared beam, fibre-optically coupled to the device. The observed picosecond response time and the very high efficiency and sensitivity of the NbN HEPs make them an excellent choice for infrared imaging photodetectors and input optical-to-electrical transducers for superconducting digital circuits.

Title Results of reflection loss measurements of sample material for radio astronomy telescope antenna for Planck Project Type Conference Article
Year 2004 Publication Proc. 14th international crimean conference on microwave and telecommunication technology Abbreviated Journal

Abstract Advanced radio telescope antennas for space applications are realised by the use of stable composite materials, which are lighter in general than various metal realisations. Reflectivity measurements have been carried out on high technology samples for the Planck radio telescope. Highly accurate results have been obtained at the Applied Physics Institute in Nizhny Novgorod, and an independent measurement with a totally different setup at the University of Stuttgart confirmed that one of the samples showed a strange behaviour. Moreover, it confirmed the high accuracy of the testing method.

Title Intense electromagnetic radiation heating of superconductor electrons in resistive state Type Journal Article
Year 1988 Publication Fizika Nizkikh Temperatur Abbreviated Journal Fizika Nizkikh Temperatur
  Volume 14 Issue 7 Pages (down) 753-763
  Keywords Nb HEB
Abstract An experimental study is made of the effect of intense radiation in the millimeter and submillimeter ranges on thin and narrow Nb films in the resistive state. It is found that the excess resistance resulting from radiation and the dependence of its relaxation time on radiation intensity and transport current can be explained in terms of the effect of electron heating. Quantitative agreement is obtained between the experimental data and a homogeneous electron heating model.

Abstract We have developed a 1.5 THz superconducting NbN Hot-Electron Bolometer mixer. It is operated by an all-solid-state Local Oscillator comprising of a cascade of 4 planar doublers following an MMIC based W-band power amplifier. The threshold available pump power is estimated to be 1 /spl mu/W.
