Title (up) Efficiency of a microwave reflectometry for readout of a THz multipixel Schottky diode direct detector Type Conference Article
Year 2020 Publication J. Phys.: Conf. Ser. Abbreviated Journal J. Phys.: Conf. Ser.
  Volume 1695 Issue Pages 012156
Keywords Shottky diode, THz, direct detector, multipixel camera
Abstract In this paper we report on the results of investigation of efficiency of a microwave reflectometry for readout of a terahertz multipixel Schottky diode direct detector. Decent capabilities of the microwave reflectometry readout were earlier justified by us for a hot electron bolometric direct detector. In case of a planar Schottky diode, we observed increase of an optical noise equivalent power by a factor of 2 compared to that measured within a conventional readout scheme. For implementation of a multipixel camera, a microwave reflectometer is to be used to readout each row of the camera, and the row switching is to be maintained by a CMOS analog multiplexer. The diodes within a row have to be equipped with filters to distribute the probing microwave signal properly. The simultaneous use of analog multiplexing and microwave reflectometry enables to reduce the camera response time by a factor of its number of columns.

Title (up) Efficiency of focusing grating couplers versus taper length and angle Type Conference Article
Year 2019 Publication J. Phys.: Conf. Ser. Abbreviated Journal J. Phys.: Conf. Ser.

  Keywords focusing grating coupler
Abstract Here we experimentally studied dependence of a focusing grating coupler efficiency versus taper length and angle on silicon nitride platform. As a result, we obtained a dependence for the efficiency of a focusing grating coupler on the parameters of the taper length and angle.

Title (up) Efficient and robust fiber coupling of superconducting single photon detectors Type Journal Article
Year 2011 Publication arXiv Abbreviated Journal arXiv
  Volume Issue Pages 6
  Keywords SSPD
Abstract We applied a recently developed fiber coupling technique to superconducting single photon detectors (SSPDs). As the detector area of SSPDs has to be kept as small as possible, coupling to an optical fiber has been either inefficient or unreliable. Etching through the silicon substrate allows fabrication of a circularly shaped chip which self aligns to the core of a ferrule terminated fiber in a fiber sleeve. In situ alignment at cryogenic temperatures is unnecessary and no thermal stress during cooldown, causing misalignment, is induced. We measured the quantum efficiency of these devices with an attenuated tunable broadband source. The combination of a lithographically defined chip and high precision standard telecommunication components yields near unity coupling efficiency and a system detection efficiency of 34% at a wavelength of 1200 nm. This quantum efficiency measurement is confirmed by an absolute efficiency measurement using correlated photon pairs (with $\lambda$ = 1064 nm) produced by spontaneous parametric down-conversion. The efficiency obtained via this method agrees well with the efficiency measured with the attenuated tunable broadband source.

Title (up) Efficiently coupling light to superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors Type Journal Article
Year 2009 Publication IEEE Trans. Appl. Supercond. Abbreviated Journal
  Volume 19 Issue 3 Pages 336-340
  Keywords optical antennas; SNSPD
Abstract We designed superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) integrated with silver optical antennae for free-space coupling and a dielectric waveguide for fiber coupling. According to our finite-element simulation, (1) for the free-space coupling, the absorptance of the NbN nanowire for TM-polarized photons at the wavelength of 1550 nm can be as high as 96% by adding silver optical antennae; (2) for the fiber coupling, the absorptance of the NbN nanowire for TE-like-polarized photons can reach 76% including coupling efficiency at the wavelength of 1550 nm by adding a silicon nitride waveguide and an inverse-taper coupler.
