Title The thermal conductivity of the intermediate state in superconductors Type Journal Article
Year 1964 Publication Sov. Phys. JETP Abbreviated Journal Sov. Phys. JETP
Volume 19 Issue 5 Pages 1228-1231
Keywords superconductors, intermediate state, thermal conductivity
Abstract It is shown that, owing to over-the-barrier reflection of electron excitations at the boundary of the normal and superconducting phases, a temperature drop occurs when there is a flow of heat. The additional thermal resistance of a superconductor in the intermediate state is calculated. It is shown that it increases exponentially as the temperature is lowered and does not depend on the electron mean free path.

Title Probing superconducting gap dynamics with THz pulses Type Conference Article
Year 2015 Publication CLEO Abbreviated Journal CLEO
Volume Issue Pages SM3H.3 (1 to 2)

Abstract We studied superconducting gap dynamics in a BCS superconductor NbN and electron doped cuprate superconductor PCCO following excitation with near-infrared (NIR) and narrow band THz pulses. Systematic studies on PCCO imply very selective electron-phonon coupling.

Title One-dimensional resistive states in quasi-two-dimensional superconductors: Experiment and theory Type Journal Article
Year 2007 Publication Phys. Rev. B Abbreviated Journal Phys. Rev. B
Volume 76 Issue 9 Pages 094521 (1 to 5)
Keywords uasi-two-dimensional superconductors, NbN
Abstract We investigate competition between one- and two-dimensional topological excitations—phase slips and vortices—in the formation of resistive states in quasi-two-dimensional superconductors in a wide temperature range below the mean-field transition temperature TC0. The widths w=100nm of our ultrathin NbN samples are substantially larger than the Ginzburg-Landau coherence length ξ=4nm, and the fluctuation resistivity above TC0 has a two-dimensional character. However, our data show that the resistivity below TC0 is produced by one-dimensional excitations—thermally activated phase slip strips (PSSs) overlapping the sample cross section. We also determine the scaling phase diagram, which shows that even in wider samples the PSS contribution dominates over vortices in a substantial region of current and/or temperature variations. Measuring the resistivity within 7 orders of magnitude, we find that the quantum phase slips can only be essential below this level.

Title Anomalous response of superconducting titanium nitride resonators to terahertz radiation Type Journal Article
Year 2014 Publication Appl. Phys. Lett. Abbreviated Journal
Volume 105 Issue Pages 192601 (1 to 5)
Keywords KID, TiN, NEP, disordered superconductors, inhomogeneous state
Abstract We present an experimental study of kinetic inductance detectors (KIDs) fabricated of atomic layer deposited TiN films and characterized at radiation frequencies of 350 GHz. The responsivity to radiation is measured and found to increase with the increase in radiation powers, opposite to what is expected from theory and observed for hybrid niobium titanium nitride/aluminium (NbTiN/Al) and all-aluminium (all-Al) KIDs. The noise is found to be independent of the level of the radiation power. The noise equivalent power improves with higher radiation powers, also opposite to what is observed and well understood for hybrid NbTiN/Al and all-Al KIDs. We suggest that an inhomogeneous state of these disordered superconductors should be used to explain these observations.

Title Achieving high counting rates in superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors Type Conference Article
Year 2006 Publication CLEO/QELS Abbreviated Journal CLEO/QELS
Volume Issue Pages JTuD3 (1 to 2)

Abstract Kinetic inductance is determined to be the primary limitation to the counting rate of superconducting nanowire single-photon counters. Approaches for overcoming this limitation will be discussed.
