The detector is based on an ultrathin, submicron-wide NbN meander-type stripe and can detect individual photons in the visible to near-infrared wavelength range at a rate of at least 10 Gb/s. The above counting rate allows us to implement the NbN device to unconditionally secret quantum key distRochester, New Yorkribution in a practical, high-speed system using real-time Vernam enciphering. %K NbN SSPD %K SNSPD %K QKD %K quantum cryptography %9 miscellaneous %R 10.1364/Icqi.2001.Pa3 %U http://www.osapublishing.org/abstract.cfm?URI=ICQI-2001-PA3 %U https://doi.org/10.1364/Icqi.2001.Pa3
